For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

Tiuche, you misunderstand the meaning of the cross (post 2). To non-believers the cross that Jesus died on is an aberration, much like the hammer that kills a loved one in your analogy. But to believers the death of Jesus on the cross was GOD’S DESIGN. A believer can understand the difference.

A killer comes to the house..

With a hammer your loved one is violently murdered..

Blood splatters against the wall

Blood pours from your be-loves skull as it lays open

The brains scattered nearby.

The hammer rests near the body.

You walk in the door

See your love lying dead

You begin to wail for your heart is broken

You pick up the hammer

You wear it as a necklace

To remember.

This is a sick way to remember your loved one. Why do you remind the God you call Father of His Son’s cruel death by wearing a cross..a cross! If your loved one was brutally murdered with a hammer would you wear it as a reminder? Would you appreciate it if your friends and family came over for dinner at your table and placed a hammer on the table? You’ve played the devil’s harlot for too long.

(V. 18-24) At the time of Paul’s writing human wisdom made the “preaching of the cross” seem like foolishness. Not much has changed from those days. The Greek philosophers and scholars call it foolishness and to the Jews it was a stumbling block.

Jews look for a miraculous sign in v.22. Not much has changed from Paul’s day in regard to the Pentecostal moment. They demand “speaking in tongues” from their membership along with miraculous gifts.
