For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

God the Holy Spirit baptizes new believers into one body at the moment of faith alone, in Christ alone. Jesus Christ who is the head of the body does not disown any member of His own body. All believers are eternally secure because Jesus Christ is faithful (1Co 12:13; 2 Tim. 2:13).

DRINKING FROM THAT ONE SPIRIT WHICH IS THE WORD OF GOD!

“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life.” said the Lord Jesus our Savior in John 6:63.

“Yield to the Spirit He has the right of Way..”sang a follower of Jesus!

To know the Lord’s Word is to know the Lord’s Mind!

Thank You. Not too long ago, I had a long discussion with a brother on the topic of Spirit Baptism - referring to believers being empowered for service. However, the baptism of the Spirit referred to the incorporating of believers into the Body of Christ [the Church]. It is not repeated. Believers are included at the moment of conversion [Eph.1:13-14].
Jesus told His disciples to “wait” for the gift of the Father [Lk.24:49; Ac.1:4]. And from that, it is taught, once saved we wait for the baptism or, to be empowered. This is never taught in Scripture. The disciples were told to wait because the Spirit [gift of the Father] would not be given until after Jesus had ascended [Jn.7:37-39].
At the moment of conversion, every believer is filled with the life of Jesus through the presence of His Spirit. His power is maifested in our lives as we become obedient to Him. But more to the point, God desires, above all things, His attributes be manifested in us - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, self-control [Rom.8:29; Gal.5:22-23].

IMMERSED INTO ONE BODY

v.12-21. We were all baptized (immersed) into one body. We are all united under one head, that is of Christ. This is a unity, in the church, where all parts of the body are needed. It didn’t matter whether they were Jew or Gentile, free or slave, male or female we are all one in Christ. This illustration shows all parts are needed.

Remember, baptism simply means an immersion into something.

HOLY SPIRIT IMMERSION VS. CHRISTIAN IMMERSION
Some contend that the baptism mentioned is baptism of the Holy Spirit. It is not. The baptism of the Spirit was for the apostles so they could overcome the Jewish opposition to bring Gentiles to Christ. The baptism mentioned is the Christian baptism where we receive the ‘indwelling’ of the Spirit. Cf. Acts 2:1-47; 10:1-48

Interestingly Acts 2:38 mentions baptism and receiving the Holy Spirit.
