I believe that the Bible played an important and undeniable role in the creation of western society. Our morality is greatly influenced by this old book. But the principles of Judeo-Christian morality aren’t universal.

I hope people won’t follow the Bible literally when it comes to violence. Read for example Exodus 34: 13-17 but don’t go to a Mosque or Hindu Temple afterwards…

A reasonable interpretation is that the Bible was not meant to be taken literally, certainly not with respect to origins accounts (aka “creationism”) that are clearly refuted by evidence, and not relevant to the Bible’s primary purpose as a moral guide.
