So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.

Samaria was under siege by the Syrian army and the food supple was cut off. With the great famine in full flow desperate times causes for desperate measures.

The women was tricked into eating her son, with the promise that next time she would eat another woman’s son. But when that time came she had hidden her son.
