And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?

@ Melinda - In the CONTEXT of 2 Kings 6, the king of Israel is blaming God for the famine upon Samaria after King Ben-hadad attacked it… it’s interesting to note though, that although deliverence occurs in 2 Kings 7, it is never recorded the king of Israel PRAISES God for that… I think this speaks so well to the fallen human heart which ultimately BLAMES God for calamities, even though it is men who commit gross acts of violence, but rarely thanks God later on for His deliverence…

But I think YOUR question has more to do with the ORIGIN of evil…

1) We know that God is light, and in Him dwells no darkness (1 John 1:5)
2) We know that God cannot be (successfully) tempted by evil (James 1:13)
3) Jesus, the God-man, though externally tempted, never sinned (Heb 4:15)
4) Lucifer sinned (Isaiah 14, Ezekiel 28)
5) Adam and Eve sinned (Genesis 3)
6) All mankind are sinners by birth, nature and choice (Rom 1-3, 5:12-21)

It certainly appears from Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28 below that God gave his created angelic beings the POTENTIAL to sin, for we read of the ORIGINS of the first sin within the heart of Lucifer. Evidently, Lucifer had the free-will to make CHOICES - to freely worship God, or to exalt himself and therefore sin (God does NOT want mindless, coerced robots). Sin germinated within his heart as outlined in James 1:13-15. And if our reading of scripture is correct, one-third of the angels in heaven ALSO sinned and followed Lucifer (Rev 12:4).

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! [how] art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High (Isa 14:12-14)

Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone [was] thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou [art] the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee [so]: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou [wast] perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee (Eze 28:13-15)

The point to get out of this is that it is NOT God who FORCES any of us to sin. God does NOT place sinful thoughts into our minds. We can do THAT all on our own, thank you very much (little bit of tragic sarcasm there). We do have the POTENTIAL to sin, and we are given the CHOICE to sin, but let us NOT for a moment blame God for the evil that WE do.

Hope this helps.

2 Kings 6:33.

Who created evil? If God created everything why do evil existed during Lucifier reign? How did Lucifier get tempted?
