And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
2 Bible Commentaries on Acts 16: 16
“And it came to pass, as we went to prayer” Usually, demons love to hinder the work of God. But for some reason, they especially detest prayer time.
“A certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us” Don’t you just love to run into these spiritually retarded ‘women preachers’? Bad thing is, they could out preach a lot of Independent Baptist preachers I know. Well, the devil always wants to mess it up for you women! Just in the previous verse Ac 16:15 the Bible records a dear lady who got saved by the grace of God. Immediately after she was baptized, along comes this devil-possessed woman preacher.
This was a demon possessed, non-denominational, come-as-you-are; live like you want to, Agape Love fellowship, Dyke-style lesbian, Woman Preacher. You know, I was trying to put myself in the devil’s moccasins for a minute. And I came up with this thought; “If the devil can’t get a person’s soul, he’ll go after their will, he’ll play on their pride and their emotions!” Now, when you get saved, the devil tries to point out all the things you’ll have to give up! You’re going to have to dress right. You’re going to have to be friendly to people…etc. So wouldn’t it be wonderful, if Lydia saw her pastor blowout a woman preacher? That’s when he’d send every imp of hell to whisper in her ear, “You’re not going to put up with that are you?” “Surely, you aint gonna let no ‘man’ tell you what to wear, where to go, what to say, and what not to say, …are you?”
By the way, 16 is number for ‘LOVE’. And that’s all you’ll hear out of these double-dipped, demonic, women preaching, hellions on T.V.
“Which brought her masters much gain” Do you think a pimp really cares about the women he prostitutes? Now, he might protect them to the point he can still make money off of them; but he’s not worried so much about their welfare as he is their profit! You bunch a rebellious little girls, come to church, smile, act like your half-way decent, that is until you and your boy-friend go park out in the woods. Then you’re not daddy’s little girl anymore! What’s worse, you’re a prostitute!

In my limited life span, I’ve noticed that women are more tender and compassionate than men, any day of the week. (Notice I didn’t say, “any day of the month.”) However, sometimes their empathy for others can lead them into a false sense of truth. I mean, women above men, are quicker to forgive a person. They have a natural tendency to trust people.
So, in my mind, this is “Elderology” now, but in my mind, I believe women are more susceptible to deception and ultimately greater targets for demon-possession than men! Now wait, before you fly of the handle, women are more likely to get saved than men too. I’ve said before, if it wasn’t for the faithful women in our Churches; Baptists would have dried up and died a long time ago!
But, how do you recognize a demon possessed person; or more specifically, a demon-possessed woman? Here are some ‘possible’ signs of demon possession in women.
1. Interrupts Spiritual Matters - “as we went to prayer” Ac 16:16
2. Drawn To Spiritual Leaders - “met us” - I know it may seem strange for me to suggest that fallen angels would want anything to do with Christianity, but its true. Fact is, preachers seem to draw nuts out like the full moon. Take Jesus for example: in Mark 5 (The Day The Price of Pork Went Up) That man possessed with the legion came ‘looking for Him.’
3. Witchcraft! - “soothsaying”
4. Bondage - “brought her masters much gain”
5. Loud - “cried” - Ac 16:17 – that word “cried” brings to mind the emotional aspect of how she spoke. We all can be loud and emotional. Remember, these are ‘possible’ signs of demon possession.
6. Deception - “These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.” By Deception I mean, she was either (1) self-deceived – thinking that she was on this road of salvation. On the other hand, maybe she employed her voice in a sarcastic attempt at (2) deceiving others? Ever met one of those people, who seemed to know ‘everybody’? At least they’d like you to think that!
