3 Bible Commentaries on Acts 2: 36

1)Corrections commentary 2.The reference in Sl.No.7(ii)should be Acts 2:14-36 & 3:12-26 instead of Acts 3:14-26 &3:12-26.
Sl.No7. We find the first sermon of Peter in Acts 2:14-36 (instead of Acts 2:14-26).Thank you.
2)I take this opportunity to add two more quotations to think over:Paul said in 1 Cor.1:17″ For Christ sent me ..to preach the gospel not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.”
1 Thes 1:5 “For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power,
and in the Holy Ghost.”

1)Dear JK,Lord & Christ are the titles given to Jesus. We find that three titles are given to Jesus in Luke 2:11.Interestingly Luke is the writer of both the Gospel of Luke & the Acts of the Apostles.JK,I wish to add some comments for the benefit of other readers.
2)Jesus Christ has fulfilled the offices of the Prophet.Priest & King.
Please refer the commentaries of Luke 2:11 to look for some information about the three titles mentioned above.
3)Peter has boldly told the audience,”You have crucified Jesus.” In Acts 3:15,he said,”You killed the Prince of life.”
4)In Acts 3:17,Peter said that the people killed Jesus through ignorance.
“Which none of the princes of this world knew, for had they known it,they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.” 1 Cor.2:8.In 1 Tim.1:13,Paul has said of himself,”Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor and injurious;but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly n unbelief.”
5)After Jesus was crucified at Calvary,He said on the Cross,”Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Read Luke 23:33,34.
6)Read Acts 5:31.”Him God hath exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and Saviour to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.”
Forgiveness of sins was obtained through the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ. He has offered Himself as sacrifice for our sins(Heb.7:27;9:14,26,
28)and sat down at the right hand of God.(Heb.8:1;10:12).
7)We find the first sermon of Peter in Acts 2:14-26.The theme of the message is the death,burial,resurrection & exaltation of Jesus Christ.He focused his message on the “Crucified Christ.”Read Rom.1:16;1 Cor.1:18;
Gal.6:16.In response to the message of Peter in Acts 2,about 3000 people were converted & baptized.Acts 2;41.About 5000 were converted in Acts 4.Read Acts 4:4.There may be many reasons for the rapid growth of the early Church.Three of them certainly are:(i)Prayer. In Acts 1,about 120 disciples prayed together after the ascension of Jesus Christ.(ii)Preaching of the Word of God.Acts 3:14-26;3:12-26.(iii)Power of the Holy Spirit.(Working
of the Holy Spirit.).”Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart…” Acts 2:37.Compare it with Zech.12:10.The human instrument (Peter),
Word of God and the Holy Spirit were in operation to fetch marvelous results.Let us pray.

Today many times people just say “Jesus died for you” but Peter places great emphasis on the offices of Jesus as Lord and Christ. That some random person has died for you doesn’t mean much, but if the very Lord and Christ dies for you, then are you in his debt. And here is a paradox, since he by his death forgives our debt before God, and yet in doing so, he places us in his debt.
