This verse highlights, for me, the practicality of Biblical law. It makes sense. Even the Christian who considers the Torah nonbinding will sense the wisdom to this law. Deuteronomy’s laws date back 1000’s of years. They represent civil law of their day. All societies update their laws. The principle is eternal. The application, or regulation, may need tweaking.
