WHEN ONE KNOWS THAT HIS GAME IS ABOUT TO BE OVER

Remember how it feels when all other else are still playing while you were GAME OVER? Whether it was on field playing with others or it was in a computer game shop- the feeling was mostly of sadness and not joy! What if the GAME OVER is on our physical life? How does it feel when one knows that one’s life is about to be over?

In our place, I knew of a Chinese businessman who was look up upon by almost everybody in the community. We looked upon him like he was a god. He have been successful in his various investments. He shouted upon his servants and sometimes kicked some of them. He acted powerful like he was invulnerable. He traveled in his Mercedes Benz and was always present in social occasions. He was publicly praise and if he was maligned it was in secret whispers.

The man never read the Bible nor did he care about Jesus Christ. He had his own buddhist gods the “Santiago” with long beard looking like a chinese warrior…but the Santiago is James the brother of Jesus Christ. It was believe that during the spanish times in the Philippines - when the Chinese in the Philippines was about to be defeated in a war against the spaniards that the Santiago riding a horse intervened and let them won.

The man had never read Ecclesiastes 2:1…and now as I saw him walking this morning old and disheveled…though he still had his money, yet he was now keenly aware of his mortality. His children had quarreled over his fortunes and the various problems of life- including his weakened conditions as an old man, had probably lead to his nonchalant care of his grooming.

This sent me into deep thoughts as I rode the jeep and saw the now old Chinaman walking weakly-thinking of my own mortality and my steps toward the day that it will also be GAME OVER for me!
