One Bible Commentary on Ecclesiastes 12: 14

1

1. There IS a day of reckoning
a. On the horizon for mankind
b. For the saved as well as the lost
2. Jesus told us so Himself
a. But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment (Matt 12:35)
3. The believer‘s sins have been paid for at the Cross
a. Therefore OUR judgment
b. Is actually one of REWARD
4. The LOST however will be SENTENCED at the Great White Throne
a. Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is [the Book] of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades
delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire (Rev 20:11-15)
5. I want to honor Jesus and be REWARDED at the Bema Seat of Christ
a. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on this foundation [with] gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. If anyone’s work which he has built on [it] endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire (1 Cor 3:11-15)
b. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things [done] in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad (2 Cor 5:10)
6. I want to hear “well done, good and faithful servant!”
a. His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ (Matt 25:21 ESV)
