One Bible Commentary on Ecclesiastes 7: 9

1. Are you a person who flies off the handle
a. At the slightest provocation
2. Are you a person who displays a knee-jerk reaction
a. Going into a rage
b. At any form of PERCEIVED “injustice”
c. That is done to you
3. Are you so tightly wound
a. That you are READY TO KILL
b. At the drop of a hat
4. Then the Bible says you are a FOOL
a. An arrogant simpleton
b. Who believes he is ENTITLED
c. To all the anger he displays
5. Hasty anger is rash and unreasoned
a. And will only lead to regretful decisions
b. Which you may never get to “take back”
6. Just because WE are angry does NOT mean God is
a. For the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God (James 1:20)
7. Anger kept Moses from entering the promised land (Number 20:7-13)
a. For he MISREPRESENTED God before the people
b. Striking the rock in anger instead of speaking to it
c. Thinking God was ALSO angry with the people
d. Which He was NOT
8. So instead of being an ANGRY FOOL
a. We should instead ask the Father
b. To make us more like Jesus
9. Jesus COULD have struck back at any time but did not
a. Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? (Matt 26:53)
10. He instead left any judgment needing to be done to His Father
a. Who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed [Himself] to Him who judges righteously (1 Pet 2:23)
11. Additional Notes:
a. Not only should WE
i. Not fly off the handle in anger
b. But we also AVOID others who are angry
i. Make no friendship with an angry man, and with a furious man do not go, lest you learn his ways and set a snare for your soul (Pro 22:24)
