1. Do NOT be disrespectful to rulers
a. By leaving their presence
b. With proper respect
2. Examples of such behavior include:
a. Storming out of an office
b. And/ or leaving without saluting
3. Do NOT defend an ethically unsound agenda
a. Or defend an immoral position
4. Because a ruler can act swiftly
a. Unilaterally commanding punishment
b. Without the miles of procedure
c. Red-tape or recourse
5. Resisting God‘s ordained rulers brings judgment
a. So anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and they will be punished (Rom 13:2 NLT)
6. Rulers have the authority to punish you
a. For the authorities do not strike fear in people who are doing right, but in those who are doing wrong. Would you like to live without fear of the authorities? Do what is right, and they will honor you. The authorities are God’s servants, sent for your good. But if you are doing wrong, of course you should be afraid, for they have the power to punish you. They are God’s servants, sent for the very purpose of punishing those who do what is wrong (Rom 13:3-4 NLT)
