There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.

1. We do not have the power to prevent death
a. Despite good exercise
b. And a healthy diet
2. The fittest people on earth
a. Die in car accidents
3. While the couch potato
a. Lives a long life
4. Jesus was the only Person to ever dismiss His own spirit
a. Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father (John 10:17-18)
b. And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up (dismissed) His spirit (Matt 27:50)
c. And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.. Having said this, He breathed His last (Luke 23:46)
5. None of us will win in the war
a. Of physical death
b. If the Lord tarries
6. The casualty rate is 100%
a. Nobody will escape it
7. And do NOT think that you
a. Are too wicked to die
8. How many times has somebody FOOLISHLY said:
a. “Heaven won’t have me, and hell is afraid I’ll take over”
9. Being wicked will NOT scare God from judging you
a. Then He will also say to those on the left hand, “Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matt 25:41)
b. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire (Rev 20:15)
