In v.17 Christ preached to the Ephesians through his inspired apostles who preached the gospel. Jesus himself preached to those who are near (the Jews).
The word ‘gospel’ refers to the good news of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Cf.1 Cor.15:1-4.
