2 Bible Commentaries on Ephesians 2: 8
2

Salvation is not earned by our work or by our merit.Grace is unmerited favor.Salvation is offered freely because of the love & kindness of God.But it is not cheap. We must not be indifferent to it.(Heb.2:3)Jesus Christ has to die on the Cross to pay the penalty for our sins to redeem us.It is the blood that makes atonement.(Lev 17:11)Without shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins.(Heb.10.22)So overflowing is his kindness towards us that He took away all our sins through the blood of His Son,by whom we are saved.(Eph.1:7)We have to believe on the finished work of Christ to get saved.Salvation is a wonderful gift of God.We escape eternal punishment and have eternal life by accepting the salvation offered graciously by God.(John 5:24;Heb.2:3,4)
