Parallel verse is Col3:10.Salvation is a gift of God.Because of the act of justification,we have a right standing before God.We have to walk a worthy life because of the high calling of God.(Eph.4:1;Col.1:10;Phi.2:13,14;3:14)
We have to lead a holy &righteous life.In Eph.4:24-28,Paul speaks of putting on the new man.Christian life is compared to taking of the old &dirty clothes & putting on new white robes.(See Rom.6:6;2Cor.5:17;Col.2:11,12)Our picture of sinful life in the past is described in Is.64:6. “…we are all as an unclean thing and our righteousness are as filthy rags.”In Is.61:10,we read “He has clothed me with the garments of salvation,he has covered me with the robe of righteousness.”After our salvation,we wear the righteousness of Christ.In Eph.6;14&Is.59:17,righteousness is mentioned as breastplate-an armor of the soldier.During the wedding of the Lamb,the bride was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen,clean and white.John mentions that the fine linen is the righteousness of the saints.(Rev.19:8)
