The truth is found in God’s word. The comparison in v.14 is made to the military girdle which was worn like a belt for strength, not for decoration. God’s word is also compared to a sword in v.17.
The helmet was to protect the head from death blows. The helmet is compared to salvation. We must not lead a life of sin and die spiritually. Cf. v.17.
