And every firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb; and if thou wilt not redeem it, then thou shalt break his neck: and all the firstborn of man among thy children shalt thou redeem.

Ex. 13:2-13
#459: To sanctify the firstling of clean cattle and offer it up (Ex. 13:2; Deut. 15:19) (at the present time, it is not offered up)
#123: Not to eat chametz on Passover (Ex. 13:3)
#124: That chametz shall not be seen in an Israelite’s home during Passover (Ex. 13:7)
#125: To discuss the departure from Egypt on the first night of Passover (Ex. 13:8)
#368: To redeem the firstborn human male (Ex. 13:13; Ex. 34:20; Num. 18:15)
#369: To redeem the firstling of an ass (Ex. 13:13; Ex. 34:20)

Verses regarding firstling/firstborn are with those concerning Passover in chapter 13. Reason being: The firstborn were spared during the first Passover night and so they belong to God. (By the way, the firstborn was a male even if he had an older sister.)

Command #459 can’t be followed without a tabernacle/temple. Commands #123 and #124 relate to #115 (refer commentary written at Exodus 12:20). It is debatable whether or not commands #368 & #369 are still applicable. You don’t have to worry about #369 if you don’t have any donkeys as livestock. Some people might redeem the firstborn by giving an offering to the local synagogue.
One reason for remembering Passover is given in verses 8 & 9: “…This is done because of that which the LORD did unto me when I came forth out of Egypt.” “…for with a strong hand hath the LORD brought thee out of Egypt.” During the Seder, the people repeat (sing) “once we were slaves, but now we are free” (avadim hayinu). Although no modern has been a slave of Pharaoh in Egypt, everyone has been a slave of Satan in sin. If God has done nothing in our life but free us “it would have been enough” (dayenu). Finally, Passover is a family event where the youngest child is encouraged to ask questions regarding the event (even if he already knows the answers).
