)It was in the providence of God that Moses led the flock of his father-in-
law to the backside of the desert & reached the Mountain of God,Horeb. It was here that he received the commission from God to go over to Egypt & to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt.Ex.3:10.
)God has told Moses that He would bring the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt & they would serve God upon the same mountain,(Ex.3:12),where he has received the commission.
)It is generally viewed that Mt.Horeb & Mt.Sinai are the same. Please note the verse:Ecclesiasticus 48:7.”Who heardest the rebuke of the Lord in Sinai and in Horeb the judgment of vengeance.”(Ecclesiasticus is an Apocryphal book.)
)Sinai Peninsula is a triangular area between the horns of the Red Sea.It is located south of the Wilderness of Paran & between the Gulf of Aqabah & the Gulf of Suez.Horeb means “dry”,”Desolate places”,”desert”, or “mountain dried-up ground.” It is a mountain range extending a length of 2 miles & breadth of one mile.
)The place where the cliffs of “Jabel Musa”(the Mount of Moses) and “Ras Safsaf” may be the probable site of the “Mountain of God.”
)It is significant to note that Moses received the law from the same place.(Mt.Sinai).Ex.19:3.
)After coming out of Egypt, the people of Israel encamped in the Sinai Wilderness for about an year.Read Ex.19:1;Num.11:11,12.
