The contention made in post 1 has no basis in fact. First of all, Human activity in Jordan (Moab) dates from the Paleolithic period, i.e. half a million years ago. In the Neolithic period (8500-4500 BC), the population reached tens of thousands of people. Eventually Israel controlled Moab. In about 840 BC, Mesha, the King of the Moabites revolted against Israel. This battle is recorded in 2 Kings chapter 3.
