Working for a living:
Gen 3:17-19
Notice that these verses speak on what is important to a man – work. Work defines a man (Bob the builder). Work may be a 4-letter word, but it is not evil itself. Adam was given work to do before the fall. But now his work has the very real possibility of being unproductive. This stands in contrast to God’s work. God was able to create, and man wants to be able to produce, but now both he and the world are cursed. Is there anything more frustrating than spending hours on a project only to have nothing to show for it when it comes to naught?
These verses also explain our current condition. There are major storms and dreaded diseases all because of the cursed earth. And man in his very nature has become sin. It is important to get that – man commits sinful acts because he is sin. Calvinists call this total depravity.
