For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

Liar, Liar:
Gen 3:4-5
We are currently living in the information age. We have telephones, televisions, computers, and telephones that have televisions and computers. It is a blessing to have access to such a great wealth of knowledge. But it is also a curse. Anyone (including me) can post their opinions in an internet forum for others to read. I have seen my share of disinformation, especially on these Bible sites. I’ll share one mild secular example: During the advertising blitz of the last Star Trek movie, the cast was interviewed. Patrick Stewart was asked about a rumor that his character Captain Picard would die. He let it be known that such a scene was not in the script. When the movie was finally released, Stewart was vindicated by the survival of Picard. However, the plot did climax with both the death of Picard’s clone and the death of another major character. Back during the blitz, no one asked the other cast about the possibility of losing their character. It was an intentional misdirect. Within these two Bible verses we see the one who is “a liar, and the father of it”. He directly contradicted God by saying “ye shall not surely die”. Eating the forbidden fruit will cause death. The physical death is not immediate, but Adam’s body will begin the dying process — he will become over-the-hill and later die. The death of the soul happens sooner as evidenced by the blame game later in this chapter. The death that is immediate is that of the spirit. Adam and Eve attempt to hide from God soon after the sin. Satan’s next statement seems to be true: “…your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” Sometimes it seems that humans have trouble discerning between good and evil. I think God meant for humans to know only good (Him). Now we know about both. (We also need to think in terms of a duality of opposites instead of compliments. For example, day vs night and light vs dark. These are good symbols to help us understand the actual opposition of good vs evil. But evil is not equal to good.) Some people claim that all truth is relative and there are no absolutes. If a man robs from another then he is prone to find excuses for himself. However if someone robbed from him then he would be the first to cry for justice. Isn’t saying all things are absolutely relative a contradiction?
