3 Bible Commentaries on Genesis 6: 22
Noah built the arch at the command of God, by faith.(Heb.11:7) He believed that the whole world would be destroyed by water and that it would be by entering the arch that one can be saved. Noah was building the arch and was preaching as the preacher of righteousness, but people didn’t beleive on his message of warning from God and heed.(2 Peter 2:10) So they were destroyed because theit sin of unbeleif! In spite of their other sins, had they believed and entered the arch they would have been saved! yes, we are saved from our sins by living active faith in Jesus Christ our saviour!

Then a hero comes along:
Gen 6:8-22
I find it interesting that Noah “walked with God”. The same was said of Enoch. Although both men were righteous, they were called to do different things. Enoch was taken while Noah was left to lead the few flood survivors. Sometimes we can get caught up when watching other believers follow God. We see a pastor, a missionary, or a talented musician and think that is what we should be doing. Or we see people avoiding things such as movies, dancing, and playing cards and we think we should follow suit. There is a difference between universal sin and personal conviction. Some church members put pressure on others to help with activities or ministries such as nursery and visitation. I agree with Dr. J. Vernon McGee on this one: If God doesn’t call you to do it, don’t do it; He can’t use it.
As with Enoch, we are not specifically told how Noah walked with God. We do know that Noah was contrasted to all the other wicked people. But we are unsure about what the people did to be judged as wicked. There is the reference at the beginning of the chapter regarding the sons of God and daughters of men. Also there are clues within this chapter such as violence and corrupt. But other than that, there are very few commands given to Adam and his descendants that we know about at this point. This is one more piece of evidence that some commands are written on the heart. A few people choose to be righteous, but most were wicked and were held accountable.
As with creation, the basics of the flood story can be found in other cultures. This is one reason why both creation and flood are considered to be myth. Please refer to my commentary of Gen 2:7 because the last paragraph can also be applied here. Joseph Campbell studied different cultures and found a common hero story. It is known as the Hero’s Journey. Not every hero in literature goes through every stage, but the basic journey is similar. The hero leaves home/comfort/innocence, he experiences drama/conflict/suffering/death/experience, and then he receives resolution/return/resurrection/enlightenment. In the case of Noah, he went through the flood (death) and survived (a type of resurrection). Finally, I repeat one comment from Gen 2:7: C.S. Lewis referred to Christianity as the one “True Myth”. The Bible provides actual stories of historical characters that help serve as examples. Each of us needs to go through our own personal Hero’s Journey, and we can only achieve resurrection via grace through faith in Jesus because He alone is the Son and firstborn of the dead.

1 Peter 3:20. “Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is,EIGHT souls were saved by water.
2 Peter 2:5.”And spared not the world, but saved Noah the EIGHTH person,a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly.”
Only eight people were saved from the flood!
Jesus said:I am the way,the truth,and the life:no man cometh unto the father,but by me.John 14:6.
“Neither is there salvation in any other:for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12.
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved ,and thy house.”Acts 16:31.
Jesus Christ died on the Cross & paid the penalty for our sins.
We are saved by grace, through faith.Eph.2:8.
“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness;but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” 1 Cor.1:18.
Some critics think that they are very intelligent & wise and are trying to find fault in the Word of God.They did not believe the Word of God.The way of salvation is foolishness to them.
John12:48 has a warning message.”He that rejecteth me,and receveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him:the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.”
The preaching of Noah might be foolishness to those who heard. They did not give attention to the warning he gave and rejected the message. They might have jeered him.But the flood came and all the people were destroyed except Noah& his family(only 8 persons).
Read Matthew 24:37-39&Luke 17:26,27.Jesus Christ has mentioned about Noah’s flood to give us warning of the coming judgment.
Read 2 Peter 3:3-7.The warning of the coming judgment of fire is mentioned.
There is also mention made about the scoffers of the last days in this passage.(Verse3).
