3 Bible Commentaries on Genesis 7: 6
Tiuche: this is correct except it wasn’t from the creation of adam but to the exiting of the garden of eden because that is when time began. For there was no time in the garden but if you notice in genesis 3:24 it states adam and eve were thrown out of the garden then the next chapter shows cain and abel being born. Then in genesis 5 shows seth being born and adam was 130 years old showing time began after being thrown out of the garden. To back this up look at the creation story when man was on earth was during the sixth day which would of been 6,000 years had passed for man and only 6 days for GOD. ALL GOD’S CREATION was finally completed on the sixth day and on the seventh day GOD rested from ALL HIS WORK which was the 7,000th year for man. Which fits perfectly with 2 Peter 3:8 which states (but, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day .) So adam would of been over 1,000 years old when he would of had cain and abel which wouldn’t fit with the birth of seth of which adam being 130 years old. Other than that you are dead on with the flood date of 1,656 years from the exiting of the garden. Also the month noah entered the ark was may 17, 1,656 years after exiting garden. And yes tiuche i do agree with you that the earth is about 13,000 years old.

Re post 2: First of all the 6 days of creation were 6 days, not six thousand years. The Bible records only six evenings and six mornings, not 365 thousand of each! If we take the expression literally Jesus would have been over twelve million years old when he died! In both 2 Peter 3:8 (one day is with the Lord AS a thousand years) and Psalm 90:4 (For a thousand years in thy sight are but AS yesterday) it clearly means AS IF it was a 1,000 years, not literally a 1,000 years. Read the text carefully.
So there is no basis to believe that time did not pass by in the Garden of Eden. It’s an interesting concept but, if time stood still, then every day would be the same and Adam and Eve would not have sinned. Therefore we have to assume that Adam started aging from the time he was created. I guess I am agreeing with Tiuche for the very first time
All this puts the great flood at about 2,344 BC. This date may possibly tie with excavations done in Mesopotamia, where three great floods occurred – in 3,500 BC, 3,000 to 2,900 BC, and 2,600 BC. Many archaeologists believe the oldest to be the one that Noah lived through, but it’s the most recent one that ties the closest with the Biblical date. See:
http://ncse.com/cej/8/2/flood-mesopotamian-archaeological-evidence
The archaeological evidence in Mesopotamia lies not only in the examination of the rock strata but also in the existence of cuneiform tablets (as well as oral tradition). So the people of Mesopotamia recorded the great flood just like the Israelis did, which of course means that someone there had to have lived through it just like Noah did. Noah’s family may have been the only survivors of the flood in Israel, but not in the world.
