1)In the Old testament,we find that the angels brought messages from God to men.The term “the angel of the Lord” sometimes referred to Jehovah Himself.
In N.T.also we find the appearances of angels.Read Matt.1:20;2:11;4:11;
Luke 1:13,26;2:10;22:43;Acts 12:7;27:23.
2)After showing that Jesus Christ is better than the Prophets in Heb.1:1-4,
the writer of Hebrews showed that Jesus Christ,as Son of God,is better than the angels in vs.5-13.In chapter 2,he showed that Jesus,as Son of Man,is better than the angels.
3)It is interesting to note that the author used various O.T.quotations.The readers of the epistle,the Jewish Christians, were founded in the O.T. very well.The Jews gave importance to the angels.Acts 7:53;Gal.3:19.
4)In Heb.1:5-13,the writer used not less than seven O.T. quotations to prove the superiority of Jesus Christ over the angels.Ps.2:7;2 Sam.7:14;
Deut.32:43;(parallel =Ps.97:7);104:4;45:6,7;102:25-27 were used in verses 5-12.
5)In this verse ,he used the famous O.T.quotation of Ps.110:1 from the Messianic Psalm.He used this quotation in 1:3;8:1;10:12 & 12:2 also.This quotation is used here at the climax point of the argument.
6)Jesus Christ is enthroned on the right hand of God after He had completed the atonement work as high priest for our sins.Heb.10:12.In Psalm 110:4,He was prophesied as the coming Messiah in the dual roles of Priest & King.
7)The prophecy of Ps.110:1 was about Jesus Christ only & not about any of the angels.The writer of this epistle argued in this verse in the same way as in verse 5 where he used the quotation of Ps.2:7.
8)The right hand of God symbolizes power,authority,honor& majesty in an exalted position occupied by Jesus Christ after His resurrection & ascension.
9)The angels are only ministering spirits.They were commanded by God to serve the heirs of salvation.(v 14)
