6 Bible Commentaries on Hebrews 12: 2
Like a ant in a piece of wood floating in a big big river travelling through rocks and dangerous water…i despair…and lo and behold i see another ant in the same fate that am in…we both despair and fear the unknown…and I try to let her see my Savior in faith…it seems she could not get behold what i tell…so i just hug her….comforted by her presence….still the ngawing fear of the coming days…must focus my eyes on my Savior…nothing to do but enjoy the day as it comes…like a child trusting in the bosom of his invisible Father…i must put that in my mind….if i am to travel through life…victorious!

Heb.12:2, “Author & Finesher of our Faith”
To understand this sentence we must understand the Greek word for “authur”… let’s see different translations…
Hebrews 12:2 HCSB
the SOURCE and perfecter of our faith,
Hebrews 12:2 NASB,
the AUTHOR and perfecter of faith,
Hebrews 12:2 KJV, NKJV, ASV
the AUTHOR and finisher of our faith;
Hebrews 12:2 ESV the FOUNDER and perfecter of our faith,
Hebrews 12:2 AMP Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection].
The AMP & the HSCB got it right on this one…
the greek word for AUTHOR is archegos (ar-khay-gos)-a chief-leader, author, Captain, Prince.
Acts 3:15 AMP But you killed the very SOURCE (the Author) of life, Whom God raised from the dead.
Hebrews 2:10 NKJV For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the CAPTAIN of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
Acts 5:31 NKJV Him God has exalted to His right hand to be PRINCE and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.”
This word “archegos” is NOT defined as God INSCRIBING Faith on His ELECT individuals, but rather being the SOURCE & LEADER of Faith for Believers.

THE FAKE CROSS
Some people wear crosses around their necks. These crosses are made of polished gold and gemstones and look beautiful.
My wife and myself attended a Methodist church for a short while. They had a huge cross that was hung from the ceiling. It hung down over where the preacher stood as he spoke.
The cross was actually quite a sight to see because it was so huge!
In reality the cross was ugly. Early Christians themselves had seen their comrades die on those.
Is it any wonder then that the early Christians used a symbol of a fish to identify themselves. The early Christians understood the ugliness of the cross and what it was used for.
THE CRUCIFICATION REVISITED
Imagine how the cross must have looked when Jesus was hung on there.
It was not a pretty sight to see. Jesus was scourged before he was hung up there. He was whipped severely and blood was running out of his back and on to that cross. The nails that pierced his hands and feet drew blood out of his body and on to that cross.
He was naked because Mark 15:24 says they cast lots to get his clothes.
This was a lot of pain - they made sure of that - he was denied water as well. The bugs could torment him because he had no clothing to shield them.
Jesus had no relief from the suffering he took. He prayed that this cup of suffering could be taken from him.
The cross was not a pretty sight - it was ugly - and sin is ugly. Jesus did not stay dead in the tomb - he has risen and is at the right hand side of God.
THE ‘REAL’ BEAUTIFUL CROSS
Col 1:19. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20. and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. 21. Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. 22. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation–
The ugliness of the cross has become our beautiful salvation.

David Meece’s Fallin Down
Lord you know I’ve tried so hard
To do the things I should
In everything I say and do
And all things that I could
But the world keeps calling me
And time and time again it seems
Before I know what’s hitting me
I’ve let You down again
And I’m falling down
You know I’m falling down
And I don’t understand
Why I keep losing ground
But every time I do
If I look up to You then
I’ll stop falling down
Yes I’ll stop falling down
Because of You
People say they understand
They don’t try to put me down
Lord, You know it rips apart
The witness that I have
How I wish that I could be
But You know that’s impossible
If I try without you
And I’m falling down
You know I’m falling down
And I don’t understand
Why I keep losing ground
But every time I do
If I look up to You then
I’ll stop falling down
Yes I’ll stop falling down
Because of You
