Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.

One Bible Commentary on Hebrews 2: 8

1

1)”thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet.”-The last part of Psalm 8:6 states,”thou hast put all things under his feet.” In Psalm 8:7,8,
the Psalmist gives explanation for ” all things.”.”All sheep & oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field. The fowl of the air & the fish of the sea & whatsoever passeth through the paths of the sea.”.In Genesis 1:28,we read “And God said, Let us make man in the image, after our likeness :and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea,and over the fowl of the air,
and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”. Man was given dominion over “all the earth.”An ideal position was assigned to man in Genesis 1.
2)”for in that he put all in subjection under him,he left nothing that is not put under him.But now we see not yet all things put under him.”-Now the writer of Hebrews begins his argument.Man was given ideal position of honor & glory in Genesis 1.He was given lordship over the rest of the creation. But
as soon as sin entered into the world through Adam, man forfeited the lordship over the rest of the creation. The dignified position of man mentioned in Psalm 8 has not yet been reached. All things have not yet been put under the feet of man.
3)The writer of Hebrews continues his discussion in the next verse to show that the meaning of Psalm 8 has been fulfilled in Christ.
