For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.

Apparently some of the commentary below refers to Hebrews 11:4. For the explanation of why Cain’s offering was not by faith, see Hebrews 11.4

But this verse here (Hebrews 3:4) is about the fact that every house is built by man, and he that built all things is God. Why is this asserted in this place? Because in this chapter, Christ is being compared to Moses. Moses was faithful as a servant in God’s house, but Christ is head over the house and built the house. And Paul says in verse 6 “whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.” In that he calls Christ the head over the house and calls Christians the house, he is asserting that Christ has made us, has created us, which is the same as to say that he is the one who “built all things.” In other words, he is showing by the analogy of the house building that Christ is God and made all things.

Cain offered God of the work of his hands. Abel offered God of firstfruits of his increase. God does not want our best efforts. God wants us to lay our lives down and let him indwell us and direct our steps. Cain left the garden to build cities (for his protection) Abram was called to leave the cities to dwell in tents (God was his safety)Walk by faith and rely on God for everything.
