1. When a Gentile got saved, let’s say at Ephesus around 61 AD, we have NO indication they were handed the Torah and told to go home and master it. There is NO indication that they conducted daily Torah-studies getting new Gentile believers in Jesus Torah-observant (see Acts 15).
Paul said when he came to Corinth that he endeavored to know NOTHING but Christ and Him crucified. But since the New Testament hadn’t been written yet in totality, I believe what we call the ’sign-gifts’ were in FULL OPERATION revealing New Testament truths which centered upon the Person and Work of Jesus. These Gentiles weren’t being marched back to Sinai, but only back as far as Calvary then forward to walking after the Spirit.
I, for instance, do NOT get up every morning and read through the Torah and remind myself not to eat a young goat boiled in its mother’s milk (Deut 14:21). I have heard this as a justification by some for NOT eating cheeseburgers - think about it. I also don’t pour over the laws regarding leprosy or how much restitution I must pay for an errant animal.
In fact, Rom 8:1-4 states that I AUTOMATICALLY fulfill ALL the Law’s righteous requirements when I am walking after the Spirit.
2. Yes, the Old Covenant HAS rotted away - we are NOT under the ceremonial, sacrificial and even the civic elements of the Mosaic Law.
I believe the MORAL elements of the Law are written on EVERY human beings heart. No matter what society one encounters, lying, cheating, murder and adultery are all frowned upon. Unless someone is mentally impaired, all human beings know the difference instinctively between right and wrong. I have NEVER had to teach my child how to sin! They did “just fine” all on their own!
What place then has the Law? As a believer, I am dead to the Law - it has NO hold on me at all - oh, it condemns me when I sin, but I confess that sin and am cleansed, for Jesus is my righteousness and fulfilled ALL its demands.
The Law is actually there for the UNRIGHTEOUS (1 Tim 1:9) to reveal God’s holy and righteous character, to condemn the sinner as guilty, and to drive them to Jesus for refuge.
The Law was Israel’s schoolmaster telling them when to get up, when to go to bed, what to eat, what to wear… but now that Jesus has come, we are no longer under the schoolmaster - we are no longer children but adult-sons (Gal 3-4).
I only ask you to stand by, for eventually I will post my Romans and Galatians notes - this is a very DEEP subject but so liberating as well… and just so as you know, I am NOT some loose-cannon, greasy-grace, antinomian who just does ‘whatever he pleases’… I think though you already know that by now…

Tractorman: SO YOU ARE SAYING THAT THE LAW OF GOD WHICH IS HOLY & SPIRITUAL MUST BE TAUGHT & ESTABLISHED AMONG US BELIEVERS! Right?
And you are telling us that it is the OLD Covenant (Old Agreement) that is rotting & vanishing away and not the Law, right?
Pardon your little brother if am a bit hardheaded! I just want to be sure what your thoughts are regarding these things since your post seems a bit unclear AS I UNDERSTAND IT!

Tiuche - you are REALLY beginning to worry me.
The Law is good and holy - it is the righteous standard of God
The Law convicts us of sin
The Law points us to Jesus
But the Law cannot save, it cannot empower - it can ONLY CONDEMN !!!
The Mosaic Law with its priesthood, ritual, ceremonies, sacrifices and Temple are all GONE, fulfilled in Christ….
Galatians and Hebrews were written to point people to now WALK AFTER THE SPIRIT, that JESUS IS MORE THAN, BETTER THAN, GREATER THAN the Old Covenant…
Yes, the writer of Hebrews is ENCOURAGING these waffling believers to go FORWARD to the HEAVENLY ZION with Jesus and not go back to Sinai under the Mosaic Law which was at the point of rotting away, dacaying and vanishing away… which it did for GOOD in 70AD….

My comment:Is back to Sinai a Wrong direction? What are you trying to tell us?
The rotting and decaying elements of the Law…which is fading away? That is a vague statement…it seems that you are suggesting that the Law is decaying and rotting away and is ready to vanish.
Let us be clear with what you are saying: ARE YOU SAYING THAT THE LAW IS ROTTING AND DECAYING AND IS READY TO VANISH AWAY?

1)God has spoken through the prophet Jeremiah about the establishment of a New Covenant.Jer.31:31.By calling the second covenant as new,the first covenant has become old.Heb.8:6,7.
2)The high priestly ministry of the Levitical priests foreshadows the superior high priestly ministry of Jesus Christ.The sacrifices of the old covenant pointed to the final & perfect sacrifice to be offered by Jesus Christ.The new covenant dedicated by the blood of Jesus Christ is a better covenant established on better promises.The prophecies of Jer.31:31-34 had found fulfillment in Jesus Christ.The law has become our tutor to bring us to Christ.Gal.3:25.Jesus Christ has come not to destroy the law or the prophets but to fulfill.Matt.5:17.He is the end of the law.The old covenant has fulfilled its purpose.It has to give way to the new & better covenant.
3)By calling the second covenant as new,God has made the first obsolete.
Obsolete means “no longer in force” and “out of date.” As the new covenant comes into force after the death & resurrection of Jesus Christ,the first one has become out of date & it is no longer in force.
4)The old covenant has disappeared.It is abolished.Read 2 cor.3:13.The new covenant which remains is more glorious than the old covenant.The new covenant enacted by the blood of Jesus Christ is the eternal covenant.Read Heb.13:20.
In addendum to the below, I want to point at that even though the Law is slain, we are not lawless, but as Paul says in 1st Corinthians 9:19-23, specifically in verse 21, “always under the law of Christ.”
The Law was nailed to the cross and slain. Ephesians 2:13-17 says “But now in Christ Jesus ye who *sometimes were* (i.e. used to be) far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made both (i.e. Jews and Gentiles) one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.”
By slaying the Law of Moses, which was a middle wall of partition separating Jews and Gentiles, which was an enmity between them causing division and war, he made peace, and joined both Jews and Gentiles into one body, one new man, by his cross. Since that he slew the Law of Moses, the law as any other dead body was decaying. And it was ready to vanish away. I think Paul means by this that the corpse of the Law of Moses was propped up before men as though still alive, by the existence of the temple. When the temple was finally destroyed in AD 70, the Law vanished away, for the puppet masters could not longer prop it up and feign as though it was alive.

My comment: The gentile believers were familiar with the Law of God given to Moses-although the gentiles were not master in the knowledge of the Law while the Jews have more knowledge of the Law.St. Paul TOLD US TO ESTABLISHED THE LAWS OF GOD!
Acts 15:21 For these laws of Moses have been preached in Jewish synagogues in every city … for Moses who read him on every Sabbath in every town in the synagogues
Romans 2:17 Behold, you are called a Jew, and rest in the law, and make your boast of God, 18And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;
19And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,
20An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.

My comment: I agree…since we are ministers of the spirit and not the letter!
2 Corinthians 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
But a little caution though…since we as humans are physical and spiritual…we need to understand that we do not eat the Words of God only-although that is our priority- but we also need the physical(the letter) aspects as well.
The Law is our tutor toward Christ-good for us who walks now in the spirit of the law or of God…but what about the babes…do we throw away their tutor? Nay St. Paul told us to establish the Law-establish the Tutor to guide the babes toward Christ! Hope you agree with this…that the Law must be SEALED among us His disciples!

My comment: Indeed in every human hearts are showers of tidbits of the Laws of God but which needs a more filling to give them fuller understanding & to tutor them toward Christ. A disordered tidbits and arrangement of the Law and in various low level of quantities in the individual human hearts can be drowned by their deceitful hearts and the devils snares-thus making them unfruitful toward the harvest…these too endangers these people into those who lack knowledge and are blind…note that those who love God’s Laws who meditate upon it day and night have an understanding like that of their heavenly Father! They see things through their Father’s eyes-while those who do not love the Laws of God- have darkened minds!
Psalm 119:99 O how love I your law! it is my meditation all the day.You through your commandments have made me wiser than my enemies: for they are ever with me.I have more understanding than all my teachers: for your testimonies are my meditation.
Psalm 19:7 the Law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple
Psalm 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.
Psalm 119:130 The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.
Note it that the Law of God-the Torah as many of you try to term it which SEEMS to lower it to something we just can select which one to observe and which one we reject- gives understanding to the simple-like us-like the babes. It convicts sinners which we all are and convert us all toward Christ! The LAW OF GOD WAS MADE FOR US FOR OUR GOOD & TO LEAD US TOWARD CHRIST! We are no longer slaves of transgressing it but slaves in obeying and being a doer of the Law although we may not perfect our doing!
Romans 2 verses:
12For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
13(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
14For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
15Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
