)The striking passage of Jer.31:31-34 is an important quotation used by the writer of the Epistle to have detailed discussions about the superiority of the ministry of Jesus Christ. He made use of almost the full quotation of these verses in this chapter& in the form of abbreviation in Heb.10:16-18 to explain clearly the benefits of the New Covenant.
)In Heb.7:11,12,we find that there is connection between the Covenant & the priesthood. It is pointed out that as there was no perfection in the Levitical priesthood, the need of another priest after the order of Melchisedec arose. Then if the priesthood has to be changed ,it was necessary for making a change also of the law.
)The high priestly ministry of Jesus Christ was superior to that of Levitical priests as the former was associated with the heavenly sanctuary as pointed out in the earlier verses& as it established the new covenant which promises better blessings & benefits.
)The law “was our tutor to bring us unto Christ.”Gal.3:24.Please read Acts13:38,39;Rom.3:20;Gal.2:16.
)The writer said in the next verse that God found fault with the people of Israel for not keeping the law.Jeremiah said that they broke the covenant that God made with the people of Israel (at Sinai).Jer.31:32.It was the plan of God to bring into force a new & better covenant to replace the old one.
)The law is a shadow of good things to come. Its sacrificial system did not provide complete atonement for sin.Heb.10:1
