It seems that Hezekiah was making two errors: First, he was falling into pride, showing off his wealth and power. Second, he may have been hoping to impress the envoy from Babylon that he could be a powerful ally against Assyria. In the second error, he was thinking in human terms about security; hoping to gain political/military safety through human alliances with the ungodly rather than trusting in God.
