1)Tongue is the part of the body which is unique in forming part of the system that produces speech.
2)Five members of the body have been mentioned in 1 Cor.12:15-21(i)Foot (ii)Hand (iii)Ear (iv)Eye & (v)Head to illustrate that the believers are the members of the body of Christ and to point out that there must be no jealousy or pride among the members & that we must care one another & honour one another& maintain unity in the body of Christ.”The tongue is a little member;it boasteth great things.Behold,how great a matter of a little fire kindleth!”James 3:5.We must not be arrogant.Jesus said,”..learn of me;for I am meek and lowly in heart.”Matt.11:29.”Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love;in honour preferring one another.” Rom.12:10
3)”And the tongue is a fire,a world of iniquity:so is the tongue among our members,so that it defileth the whole body,and setteth on fire the course of nature;and it is set on fire of hell.”James 3:6.Perhaps it may be the reason the tongue was touched by the fire from heaven on the day of Pentecost.Acts 2:2-5.
4)All kinds of beasts,birds,serpents and the fish of the sea can be tamed by man.James 3:7;Psalms 8:6-8. Look into James 3:8 at the top once again.
Read Matt.12:34.It is difficult to control the tongue.If we fail to control the tongue,we will have to land in trouble.”If anyone among you seem to be religious,and bridleth not his tongue,but deceiveth his own heart,this man’s
religion is vain.”James 1:26.
5)”Therefore bless we God,even the Father;and therewith curse we men,which are made after the similitude of God.”James 3:9.Tongue has to be used to praise God and not to curse man who is created in the image of God.(Gen 1:26,27;1 Cor.11:7)
“Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water & bitter?”James 3:12.Read James 3:12 also.
6)We have to be careful in our words.Matt.12:36,37.We must be careful in passing judgments on others.Matt.7:2.We must remember that we must appear before the judgment seat of Christ.Rom.14:10;2 Cor.5:10.
7)”let your speech be alway with grace,seasoned with salt,that ye may know how ye might to answer every man.” Col.4:6;Read Pro.12:18;16:24;Eccl.10:12;
