John 1: 4 Commentary

1. There is the Greek word “BIOS”
a. Which means extensive life
b. A period or duration of life
2. All mankind may experience BIOS
a. But it is at best a two-dimensional existence
b. Having both a starting and ending point
c. Limited to the span of a lifetime
d. Bereft of an eternal hope
3. But Jesus is the ‘ZOE’ – intensive life
a. Denoting Jesus as the Giver
b. And Sustainer of vibrant life
4. He came to die for our sins
a. Giving all who believe in Him
b. A genuine life worth living NOW
c. As well as a FUTURE hope
5. Jesus gives us the ability to see life clearly
a. To see what is truly important
b. Giving us genuine vitality of life
c. And NOT mere existence
6. Jesus came to give us this LIFE
a. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10 ESV)
b. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ (John 7:38 ESV)

JESUS SAID the light of the World, THE WORDS I SPEAK TO YOU THEY ARE SPIRIT AND THEY ARE LIFE -John 6:63. His Word is a light unto our feet and a lmap unto our paths… life and light unto us sinful persons!

Eternal life exists in God the Son. The life He lived among men as Jesus Christ was the light of men. Because eternal life exists in Him, God the Son can offer everlasting life to whoever believes in His finished work at Calvary’s cross.
