John 3:6
“That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

Calvinist pastor John Piper said, “When woman give birth, they give birth to DEAD babies” referring to this verse. This is their Reformed Doctrine of Total Depravity speaking, not the Scriptures.

David said in Psalm 139:13-14
“For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and WONDERFULLY made;
MARVELOUS are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.”

What’s so Wonderful or Marvelous about a DEAD, and Totally Wicked & Depraved Sinner of a Baby coming into the world? They’re wrong.

To say that we are either “born dead” or “born alive” is a false dichotomy. Children are born neither. Being spiritually “dead” and “alive” have to do with a relationship with God. If someone is a sinner, then they are “spiritually dead” since it is sin that separates us from God. If a person is walking in holiness, then they are reconciled to God and are “spiritually alive”. So, a person must be able to “sin” or “live holy” in order to be “dead” or “alive”. Children, babies, toddlers, etc. don’t qualify…

Dear Bro.J.W.Elder,
Even the religious leader Nicodemus could not understand about the second birth which is spiritual birth.John3:4,9,10.We must be born again while we are in this world itself.There is only one life to live in this world in the flesh.We have to make a decision about being born again right in this world as it will decide our eternity.Jason,I think that Bro.Martin has some doubts about the spiritual birth.

I think I’ll give Patrick the benefit of the doubt on what he meant by his post. I think he was being rhetorical when he asked “Why do people ask…if I was born again?”

And its obvious we have to “complete our first birth” before the second, which, I believe was his point?

But again, its good that we elaborate on things for the sake of future readers.

i)Dear Patrick Martin.Ga.,Greetings to you.
In this verse,Jesus Christ mentioned about two births.(i)Physical birth (ii)Spiritual birth.The physical birth is the natural birth.The second birth is the spiritual birth.The physical birth has occurred when a person is born.A person has to be born again to become the child of God.John 1:12.
2)Jesus Christ was pointing out the importance of the spiritual birth to Nicodemus,who was a religious leader.
“Except a man be born again….”-John 3:3.
“Except a man be born of water and Spirit…”-John 3:5.
“Ye must be born again….”-John 3:7.Here “you” is in plural form.
3)The Greek word which was translated “again” may mean either “from above” or “anew”.
I don’t understand what do you mean by “we must complete our birth of flesh”
“born of the flesh”-It is the physical birth.It has happened to us.
Jesus has said that a person has to be born again to enter into the kingdom of God.When a person is born again,he becomes the child of God.John 1:12.
4)Read John 1:13.We do not become children of God by bloodline.”not of blood”.We do not get saved, because our parents or ancestors have been saved.
5)We do not become children of God by making some resolutions.
“nor of the will of the flesh” John 1:13.
6)We do not become children of God by any of our acts.
“nor of the will of man”John 1:13.
We are not saved by taking baptism or having a church membership.Please compare:Acts 1:47.
7)”were born of God” John 1:13.Salvation is of God.We are saved because of the work of the Holy Spirit in us.
The same Greek word “Pneuma” is used for both wind and Spirit in John 3:8.The origin of the wind is a mystery.But we can experience or feel the effect of the wind.The work of the Holy Spirit is a mystery.The caterpillar is changed into a beautiful butterfly.It is the work of God.A born again person becomes a new creature because of the work of the Holy Spirit.Read
2 Cor.5:17.The life style of a person who is in Christ is different from that of a person -who does not know Christ personally.(A person who has not accepted Jesus as personal Saviour)
“And that ye put on the new man,which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” Eph.4:24.
Dear Martin,I request you to refer the commentaries for John 3:5,7&8 also.
Please take time.I do pray for you.May the Lord help you to get the assurance of salvation.I do take leave of you with my best wishes,Martin..

Why do people ask me if I was born again? Jesus indicated that we must first be born of the flesh and then be born of the Spirit. This indicates that we must first complete our birth of flesh and then be born into the spirit. How else could we be as the wind, as Jesus said those born in the spirit would be?
