One Bible Commentary on Luke 1: 53

1

God promises that if we in humility trust in Him He will supply all our needs (Isaiah 57:15, Luke 12:22-31, Matthew 6:25-34, James 4:10). God has, does, and will supply physical food and drink to all those who trust in Him and His Word. As demonstrated in the flight of the children of Israel from Egypt, God both humbled and supplied all needs including manna from heaven (Deuteronomy 8:2-6, Exodus 16:35, John 6:31-32). Such is an allegory of the need for humility to both recognize a need and then partake of the spiritual food provided by God to nourish the maturing child of God (1st Peter 2:2, Hebrews 5:12-14, John 6:27). If we trust in God by demonstrating faith in His Word he will continue to feed us and others who have a spiritual hunger for righteousness. We are also told that Christ is a fulfillment of the bread provided from heaven to nourish us and shed light on the right path by the truth of His word and his sacrifice (John 6:33-58, John 1:1-2, 1st John 5:7, Revelation 19:13). Just as Christ is immortal we know that His Word is a firm foundation that will allow us to base our thoughts and actions on truth to avoid the snares based on lies wrought by the Devil (Psalms 119:142 & 119:151, John 17:17, Matthew 7:13-14). God has so many things in store for those who would but trust him that is beyond comprehension in our limited understanding (Isaiah 64:4, 1st Corinthians 2:9, Malachi 3:10).

In turn those who have no longing for the love of the truth and all that God provides by His grace and mercies are sent away empty in their own desires (2nd Thessalonians 2:8-12, Micah 3:1-2, 1st Peter 3:10-12). Those who cherish darkness will shield themselves from any truth, hoping to silence the conviction pleading with them. When we reject what God provides we are left wanting so that we say “I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:” (Revelations 3:17).

Let us always remember to as children seek humbly the increase that God waits to give those who will ask and in turn glorify him when we grow and prosper in His Word (Matthew 7:7-8, 1st John 5:14-15, James 1:5-6).

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. - 1st Corinthians 10:31
