One Bible Commentary on Luke 5: 12

1)The account of healing of the leper is found in Matt.8:1-4 & Mark 1:10-45.
This incident has taken place in a city(Luke 5:12) in Galilee.(Mark 1:39)
2)The lepers ,as they were unclean, must dwell outside the camp of the people of Israel. They had to dwell alone. They could not join the worship of
God with other people. They were excommunicated from the society.Read
Lev.13:45,46.Num.5:2.Two chapters-Lev.13&14- deal with the identification of leprosy & rituals connected with the ceremonial cleansing of the lepers to be admitted to the community.
3)Sin separates us from God.It prevents us to have fellowship with the Living God & to enjoy the blessings of God & to serve Him as an useful vessel.Read Eph.2:12;Col.1:21.
4)In O.T. it is recorded that 3 persons were healed of leprosy.(i)Moses (It was a sign given by God that He had appeared to him)Ex.4:6-7.(ii)Miriam Num.12:10-16.Leprosy struck her because of her rebellion against Moses& he prayed for her healing.(iii)Naaman 2 Kings 5:1-15.It was the faith in the Living God that healed him & God’s power was manifested. In Luke 4:27,we read that there were many lepers in Israel but only Naaman was healed. The reason for others not being healed is evidently their lack of faith.Jesus could not do mighty work except healing a few sick people in his own country because of their unbelief.Mark 6:5,6
