3 Bible Commentaries on Mark 1: 15
Charles, no problem with what you wrote, BUT…. I want some more details!
1. In what way is the ‘kingdom of God’ at hand?
a. “Yes, I am a Jew and finally, Israel is going to overthrow Rome!”
2. Repent? Repent from what?
a. “I go to synagogue and am a Torah-observant Jew”
3. Believe the Gospel? What gospel?
a. “I already believe in God, the Law and the Prophets”
Perhaps you have a ‘Round 2′ where all of this will be ‘commented’ on… tear this verse apart and put it back together for us! Inquiring minds want to know!

Right from the start Jesus identified his mission with the kingdom of God. The Jews were expecting a political Messiah, but Jesus made it clear he had no interest in earthly politics.

Hey Tractorman,
1. I do not know exactly what the ‘kingdom of God’ meant to Jesus. The term seemed to have been synonymous with ‘kingdom of heaven’, so it was like going to heaven or achieving some other kind of unity with God. And this was expected to happen very soon. Speaking two thousand years later, this kingdom doesn’t seem to have arrived on schedule.
2. People needed to come clean and be ready for this significant transformation. I guess that meant following his (Jesus’) preaching.
3. In this verse the word ‘gospel’ seems to mean the teaching that Jesus had in store. It has also been translated as “good news”, referring to the kingdom of God being close at hand.
Good luck with overthrowing Rome, but the Italian economy is not very good today. Maybe you should aim for China.
Which God, which law, and which prophets do you believe in? Is Jesus one of your prophets? Or are you waiting for a or “the” prophet/messiah? (I have an inquiring mind as well!)
