3 Bible Commentaries on Mark 1: 41
Alexander says “only Mark used the expression “moved with compassion” in the narration of this incident.” True. But all the accounts, Matthew 8:3, Mark 1:41, and Luke 5:13 show that Jesus had compassion on him, because they say “he touched him,” which is not something you would do to a leper unless you had compassion on him.
1)only Mark used the expression “moved with compassion” in the narration of this incident. The sight of the leper coming & worshiping him& praying for healing touched his compassionate heart.
2)Mark used the above expression in mark 6:34 & 8:2 also.
i)When Jesus saw much people,he was moved with compassion on them because they were as sheep not having a shepherd.Mark 6:34 .The miracle of healing of 5000 followed. In Matthew’s account of this incident,we find that Jesus healed the sick among the crowd which was gathered.Matt.14:14.
ii)Again when Jesus saw an immense crowd & found that they had nothing to eat,he was moved with compassion.Mark 8;2.The miracle of feeding of 4000 healed.
3)Matthew employed the expression in Matt.9:36 also. But when he saw the multitudes,he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted and they were scattered abroad,as sheep having no shepherd. He asked his disciples to pray for the laborers for the harvest.

1)Jk,please don’t misunderstand the interpretation given by me.
2)Some of the incidents in the life of Jesus are described in more than one Gospel. When we study all the accounts of an incident furnished by all the Gospels in which they are given,we will get all available information of that incident to study the Bible deeply. It will be interesting also.
3)Because Matthew & Luke had omitted the expressions “moved with compassion” in their descriptions of this incident, does not mean that Jesus did not have compassion on the leper. But Mark furnished the expression to stress the compassionate nature of Jesus Christ.
4)All the Gospels uniformly say that”Jesus put forth and touched him”There is no controversy in that as you have said. But mark gives additional information which can ,of course,be implied by the action of Jesus as you have said.
5)Look at another incident of healing of ten lepers in Luke 17:11-19.In that incident Jesus did not touch them, but told them”Go shew yourselves unto the priests.”When they obeyed His instruction, they were healed.v14.
But one of them only returned to give thanks.
