Why did Jesus command people to not tell others of the miracles He performed?

Question: “Why did Jesus command people to not tell others of the miracles He performed?”
Answer: After healing a man of leprosy (Mark 1:41-42), “Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning: ‘See that you don’t tell this to anyone…’” (Mark 1:43-44). To our way of thinking, it would seem that Jesus would want everyone to know about the miracle. But Jesus knew that publicity over such miracles might hinder His mission and divert public attention from His message. Mark records that this is exactly what happened. In this man’s excitement over his being miraculously healed, he disobeyed. As a result, Christ had to move His ministry away from the city and into the desert regions (Mark 1:45) “As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to Him from everywhere.”
In addition, Christ, though he had cleansed the leper, still required him to be obedient to the law of the land - to go at once to the priest, and not to make delay by stopping to converse about his being healed. It was also possible that, if he did not go at once, evil-minded men would go before him and prejudice the priest, and prevent his declaring the healing to be true because it was done by Jesus. It was of further importance that the priest should pronounce it to be a genuine cure, that there might be no prejudice among the Jews against its being a real miracle.
Finally, Jesus did not want people focusing on the miracles He performed, but rather the message He proclaimed and the death He was going to die. The same is true today. God would rather that we be focused on the healing miracle of salvation through Jesus Christ instead of focusing on other healings and/or miracles.

The fact remains that no reason is given why Jesus did not want news of the miracle to spread. This is not the only instance this happened (see Mark 8:26 for example)

GOD HAS HIS REASON for silence, His reason might be foolishness to us, but it is wiser than whatever reason we think we have! It just boils down to the main question everyone of us should asked ourselves: DO WE TRUST GOD!
We may question Him for his acts-his strange acts-but we should always trust Him even in His silence! If He speaks-the Athiest mocks at His Words and if He keeps silence-the Atheist mocks about His real existence! We should wait for God and not go ahead w/o Him, someday He will punished those who mocks His Word & His silence!
Psalm 50:21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
Isaiah 30:18 Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!
Isaiah 57:11 “Whom have you so dreaded and feared that you have been false to me, and have neither remembered me nor pondered this in your hearts? Is it not because I have long been silent that you do not fear me?
Isaiah 65:6 “See, it stands written before me: I will not keep silent but will pay back in full; I will pay it back into their laps–

Re post 1. No reason is given. It is strange that he performed miracles with the specific purpose so everybody would believe in him and then he tells them not to spread the word!? And, of he had any special reason for this one to remain a secret, why rely on the witnesses? He could have kept the girl from dying in the first place or he could hve hypnotized everybody so nobody would remember that the girl ever died.

Tony (Post #1): Jesus had His personal reasons for not wanting the news to spread. Disclosure of this miracle was, likely, not consistent with the plan of God the Father.

Jesus knew before Jarius ever came to Him what the situation would be. Why would Jesus consider to burden a human with such a great task as this…to tell no one of such a great miracle? He knows us…. we can’t keep silent. So what is the true reason for Jesus command to keep silent?

Tiuche, your post 6 is a nicely documented essay, though I may not agree on your conclusions. It’s certainly not the same today. If we had another Jesus walking around today healing the sick, my insurnce premiums would be reduced significantly!
