Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

a. To men SENT WITH AUTHORITY
b. To perform a particular mission
c. On behalf of Jesus Christ
3. SIMON, who is called Peter
a. Impetuous and yet trusting
b. He was a born leader
c. Prominent in the early stages of the Church
d. Makes the great statement “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matt 16:18)
4. ANDREW, his brother
a. Introduced to Jesus by John the Baptist (John 1:36-40)
b. Brought his brother Peter to Jesus
c. Known for bringing men to Jesus
5. JAMES, the son of Zebedee
a. One of the ‘Sons of Thunder’ (Mark 3:17)
b. Later killed by Herod (Acts 12:2)
c. Was the first of the twelve to die as a martyr
6. JOHN, his brother
a. Also a son of Zebedee, the other ‘Son of Thunder’
b. Was the disciple whom Jesus loved (John 20:20)
c. Wrote the Gospel of John, 1,2 and 3 John and The Revelation
