One Bible Commentary on Matthew 10: 7

1

1. They were NOT YET preaching
a. A ‘Christian brand’ of salvation message
2. There would be NO mentioning
a. Of His atoning death on the cross
b. Or resurrection from the dead
c. As NONE of this happened yet
3. For even the disciples did NOT understand what THAT meant
a. Now as they came down from the mountain, He commanded them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead. So they kept this word to themselves, questioning what the rising from the dead meant (Mark 9:9-10)
b. For He taught His disciples and said to them, “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.” But they did not understand this saying, and were afraid to ask Him (Mark 9:31-32)
4. But they WOULD proclaim the message
a. That the kingdom of heaven is HERE
b. In the Person of Jesus Christ
5. If they wanted to EXPERIENCE the kingdom of heaven
a. Then they would have to experience Jesus
b. To see Him, to hear Him, to believe in Him
6. This would no doubt include that Jesus IS the MESSIAH
a. He (Andrew) first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ) (John 1:41)
7. They would tell that the SCRIPTURES spoke of Jesus
a. You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me (John 5:39)
8. They would tell of the need to BELIEVE in Jesus as Messiah
a. Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” (John 6:28-29)
9. They would tell of the BLESSINGS and CONSEQUENCES of accepting or rejecting Jesus
a. He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him (John 3:36)
