Jesus’ name became well known.King Herod heard about Him.He said that Jesus was John the Baptist whom he had beheaded.Others said that He was Elijah.And others said that,”It is the prophet or like one of the prophets.”But Herod had strong opinion that He was John the Baptist as great works were done by Him.(Read Mark 6:7-17)There were different views about Jesus Christ among the people.The summary of the various views is given in verse 14.The writer of this Gospel was also one of the disciples.(Matt.9:9).Jesus asked the disciples,”But whom say ye that I am?”Note the word “But”.
We have to make confession of our faith.(Read Rom.10:9,10)Martha has confessed,”Jesus is Christ,the Son of God who is to come into the world.”
(John11:27).Timothy has made good confession in the presence of many witnesses.(I Tim.6:12)Paul mentioned that Jesus is the blessed & only Potentate,the king of kings & Lord of Lords.(I Tim.6:15).We also read that Jesus witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate.(I Tim 6:13;Matt.
27:11;Mark 15:2;Luke 23:3,4;John 18:33-37).Read Matt.26:63,64;Mark 14:61,62
Luke 22:66-70.We can make note that Jesus confessed before the high priest &other religious leaders.
