The people of Israel expected that Messiah would come as a political leader to build a kingdom for Israel.But Jesus Christ came in the flesh to offer Himself as Sacrifice to take away the sins of the people of the world.
(Ps.40:6-8;Heb.10:5-10;John 1:29).Atonement had to be made through His blood so that eternal redemption could be obtained.(Heb.9:12).He came to die in our stead to pay the penalty for our sins.He came to pay the ransom to redeem us from sin debt.(I Tim.2:5,6;Tit.2:14;Is.53;Rom.3:25,26)He had to die to reconcile man with God.(Eph.2:13-16).His mission was to inaugurate the New Covenant prophesied in Jer.31:31-34.(See Heb.8:8-13;10:15-18)The people of Israel broke the First Covenant made with them after they came out of Egypt at Mt.Sinai.The New Covenant had to be dedicated with the precious blood of Jesus Christ.(Matt.26:28).The shedding of blood was necessary so that forgiveness of sins,access to God & eternal inheritance could be made possible to those who believe in His blood.(Heb.9:12,14,15,22;10:19,20;
Rom.3:25,26).So the death of Christ was necessary to inaugurate the New Covenant & for the fulfillment of its promises.(Heb.8:8;9:15;12:24).But the people of Israel would not accept the concept of Messiah to suffer.So Jesus Christ strictly commanded the disciples not to tell anybody that He was Christ.
