“From that time forth”-A new phase in Jesus’ ministry began.(cf. Matt.4.17)
From now on Jesus concentrated more on teaching the disciples than doing the public ministry.The focal point of the ministry was Jerusalem & the Messiah prepared to go to the Cross.The disciples were taught about the sufferings he had to go through & His rejection by the religious leaders & also about His death & resurrection.Please read Matt.17:22,23;20:17-19;Mark 8:31;
10:33-34;Luke 9:22;18:31-34.
The elders,chief priests & scribes were the members of the Sanhedrin which is the supreme court of the Jews.The Sanhedrin had 70 councilors apart from that year high priest who was the President of the Council.It has enormous powers in dealing with civil cases & religious matters but it had no power to pass death sentence on anybody.The Roman Governor had the power for that.That is why after Jesus Christ was tried before the Sanhedrin was sent to the Roman Emperor,Pilate, for trial.
“be killed” “be slain”-Luke 9:22
Read Lev.16:15.Caiphas was the then high priest when Jesus was killed.see the words of Caiphas in John 11:49-53.(Please refer Is.49:6;I John 2:2;Acts 13:47;Gal.3:28)
“Lamb slain from the foundation of the world”-Rev.13:8
“He is brought as a lamb,to the slaughter & a sheep before her shearers is dumb so he opens not his mouth”(Is.53:7)Please refer Acts 8:32;I Peter 1:19;John 1:29;Matt.26:63;27:12.
“be rejected” Mark 8:31;Luke 9:22Please read Ps.118:22;Matt.21:42;Mark 12:10;I Peter 2:4,7.
Jesus Christ who will com as king & Judge (in the Second Advent)has to shed His blood first for the sins of the people of the world to obtain redemption.(Heb.9:12,22)
Jesus Christ has foretold not only about His death but also about His resurrection.Read John 2:22;Luke 24:6-8.
Jesus had fulfilled the O.T.prophesies by coming as Messiah.Luke 24:25-27;
44-46.
