1. How Jesus so DIFFERED
a. From the religious professionals
2. While the professionals quoted EACH OTHER
a. As fallible men with faulty understanding
3. Jesus spoke as one
a. Having authority from His FATHER
b. As the perfect Son of God
4. He did not FIRST check with the religious leaders
a. On WHAT He could or could not say
b. Nor ask their advice on HOW He could say it
5. Jesus spoke with authority
a. On the marks of living in spiritual maturity
b. That His purpose was to fulfill not destroy the Law
c. On how our righteousness must exceed that of the religious professionals
d. About the true intentions of the Law as opposed to the Letter of the Law
e. On how we are NOT to do our business with God to be applauded by men
f. On how to properly pray to God as our Father
g. On how we cannot serve two masters
h. On seeking the kingdom of God first
i. On not judging the motives of others
j. On persistent prayer
k. On God giving us the best in response to prayer
l. On the ‘Golden Rule’
m. On false prophets and bad fruit
n. On building on solid and unstable foundations
6. I can hear the crowds now
a. “Who is this Man who speaks with such authority
i. And where did He get the right to speak like that?”
b. “He sounds like He knows God personally
i. And knows what God would want to say to us”
7. When WE preach the Word of God
a. We too can speak with authority and boldness
8. When our preaching lines up with the Word of God
a. Then we have the confidence
b. That heaven itself is backing us up
9. Jesus said so Himself
a. Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven (Matt 18:18)
