Jehovah God steadily directs the onward movement of spiritually mature believers in the LORD Jesus Christ. He fixes their steps. He settles their course. He guides their way through life in such a way they will receive maximum reward and blessing on this Earth and in their life in Heaven. Thus, the question, how can a man understand his own way if unfamiliar with God’s ways, and Jehovah God does not order his steps?

The second part of the verse is a question. How can a man then understand his own way?

Ordinarily a man cannot understand his own way not only because of the workings of God in ordering a person’s way but also because of the work of Satan in confusing the less discerning person. As much as the ways of God are past finding out, Satan the enemy of soul is also doing all he can to make it difficult for man to understand his/her ways. With respect to the work of Satan in compounding the issue of guidance, Paul wrote to the Thessalonians “Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us”(1Thes 2:18).

Apart from Satan, the flesh and its desires can stand in the way and make it difficult for a man to understand his own way. It is only as we surrender to God and to the Holy Spirit out teacher that we can understand the leading of God and hence our own ways too.

Correction in post#1.
“Man’s steps are ordered by the LORD.How then can a man understand his way?”Pro.20:24.
In commentary 1,it was typed as “ways” instead of “steps” by mistake.

“Man’s ways are ordered by the LORD.How then can a man understand his own way?”Pro.20:24(Amp)
“O Lord,I know that the way of the man is not in himself;it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.”Jer.10:23.
It is not man who directs his steps but it is God who directs the steps of man.God directs man;man cannot direct God.
Nothing happens in our life by accident or by chance or by luck.Everything happens as per the appointment of God.
We are encouraged when we are reassured that God is at work in our lives.
Often we may not be conscious of the divine guidance in our lives.God’s ways are mysterious. He works through mysterious circumstances.
God sometimes leads His people through ways which are unknown to them.Read Isaiah 55:8,9.
God knows the end from the beginning. He engineers the circumstances in such a way so as to fulfill his purpose & plan in the lives of His children. The providential working of the Lord can be seen in the lives of His children for the care & protection of them.
Sometimes we are able to realize the divine guidance only when we pass through critical circumstances. Our disappointments in life become God’s appointments.Man’s extremities are God’s opportunities to show His power.
We have to be thankful for being guided by the Living Savior.
David says,”The LORD is my shepherd.”Ps.23:1.The great shepherd (Heb.13:20)will guide us in all the days of our life.Read Ps.138:8.
Ps.32:8.”I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way thou shalt go.I will guide thee with mine eye.”
Ps.27:11.”Teach me thy way O LORD and lead me in a plain path because of mine enemies.”
