1. Even the most powerful authority figures in our lives
a. Whether godly or wicked
b. Do not ultimately control anything
2. I am NOT saying it is easy to understand
a. And for some of us
b. It is even hard to accept
3. But even the most wicked despot
a. Who is viciously persecuting
b. And killing God‘s people
4. That evil despot cannot make a move
a. Without it passing through
b. The will of God FIRST
5. We should take COMFORT in that fact
a. That NOTHING happens to us
b. Outside of the will of God
6. It may certainly APPEAR
a. That others are “driving our bus”
b. And have complete control
c. Over our lives
7. And we are certainly affected
a. By the actions of our rulers
b. And authority figures
8. But they are NOT acting independently
a. Of God‘s sovereign will
9. So whatever happens to a believer
a. Has been approved by God Himself
b. Even persecution and death
10. No believer relishes being tortured and martyred
a. But Jesus said it WOULD happen
11. As believers though we can take COMFORT
a. That death ushers us into the very presence of God
