2 Bible Commentaries on Proverbs 24: 11
When governed by selfishness, people feel that they must look out for themselves and their interests. They have little concern about the plight of others, especially when coming to someone else’s aid might endanger personal security. Persons who profess faith in God, however, should stand out as uniquely different in their attitude toward fellow humans. When the lives of innocent ones are threatened, God-fearing persons recognize their moral responsibility to do everything within their power to render assistance. They would not think of being like Cain who lyingly dismissed the question about his brother Abel with the words, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” (Genesis 4:9)
