1. One-way communication between friends
a. Is NEVER encouraged in scripture
2. Open and honest communication between buddies
a. Keeps BOTH parties sharp
3. Ideas, thoughts and viewpoints
a. MUST be put to the test
b. To see if they have any merit or not
4. Iron can NOT sharpen iron
a. If ALL you talk about
b. Are sports and the weather
5. Men do NOT like appearing VULNERABLE
a. And we do NOT like to lose
b. So we often “clam-up”
c. And not reveal our thoughts
6. But in order to advance a relationship
a. We are going to have to open up
b. And allow our thoughts to be critiqued
7. In the final analysis
a. It IS a WIN-WIN situation
b. For all parties involved
8. Our thoughts become more biblical
a. And the relationship (friendship)
b. Gets tighter and closer

Iron is a passing reference to God’s Word. The Word of God is alive and powerful sharper than a two-edged sword . . .. It is the Word of God in a mature believer that sharpens the knowledge, character, and wisdom of an immature believer. Without God’s Word in the soul all you have is wood, hay, and stubble. And, can a man fight a war with a piece of wood, some hay and stubble?
