1. The quality of silver and gold
a. Is TRULY revealed when under fire
2. Likewise the TRUE character of a man
a. Is revealed when he is praised
3. How do you react when praised
a. “Oh good, you finally recognized my greatness”
b. “It’s all true, it’s all SO true”
4. Or do you humbly give the glory to God
a. “Well, thank the Lord that He has used me in your life”
5. When praised by men, we should brag on Jesus
a. As everything for which He may use us
b. Finds its source and ability in Him alone
6. Herod in fact was killed for not giving God the glory
a. So on a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on his throne and gave an oration to them. And the people kept shouting, “The voice of a god and not of a man!” Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died. But the word of God grew and multiplied (Acts 12:21-24)
